Irish Dancing:  It’s Not Just for Girls in Wigs!

Traditional Irish music just begs to be danced to. It is, in fact, dance music, and always where there were musicians, there were dancers. Today, we most often see dance performances of step dancing (think Riverdance), but communities gather more for social dancing . Some of the most popular social dances are ceili and set dances.

Come try these social dances with us. We have regularly scheduled dances every Friday, with free lessons an hour before each dance.

Dances are sponsored by the Francis O’Neill Club and are held at the Irish American Heritage Center located at 4626 N. Knox Avenue in Chicago. Dances held on the first Friday of the month are called Céilí Mór, (read: big dance) and feature the Chicago Coeltiori Céilí Band. Dances held on the other Fridays have recorded music. Check out the back for more details.
